Leg 2 - Crossing the Atlantic
Attached below is the photograph of the Atlantic chart, I bought one for my mum and dad and everyday when we reported our GPS position they put a pin in to mark where we were. So what you can see below is the route we took as we crossed. You can see how far south we had to go to pick up the trade winds.
We departed Las Palmas, Gran Canaria at 1pm on 23rd November 2008. We arrived in Rodney Bay, St Lucia, at 21.08pm on December 13th 2008. A journey that took us 20 days and 9 hours to cover 2900 miles. On corrected time, we came 8th in our class of 18 and 56th in the cruising division of 147 boats. we declared 46.75 engine hours.

Since arriving in St Lucia last december (O8) we have visited many of the Eastern Caribbean countries. They are all different, and their culture depends very much on their ownership, For example St Barts is french and is very european, expensive and full of designer shops and gourmet restaurants, Dominica on the other hand is a very poor native caribbean island, with little commerce and tropical rainforest areas. Our favourite place is still the BVI. Shown below is a map, the red dots represent the countries we have visited on the way up to the virgin islands where we are currently based (as of October 09)
